Splish Splash Canyon
Cold Water, Tight Slots & Playful Canyon Movement
Splish Splash Canyon delivers one of the most refreshing and playful slot canyon experiences in southern Utah. This adventurous family-friendly route combines cold water swimming, tight sandstone narrows, stemming, scrambling, and fun canyon movement into a compact but action-packed adventure. It’s an ideal choice for active families, adventurous beginners, and anyone looking to escape the brutal desert heat while still experiencing a true slot canyon environment.
Unlike more rappel-heavy technical canyons, Splish Splash focuses more on movement and exploration inside the canyon itself. The canyon offers beautifully sculpted sandstone walls, narrow passages, refreshing pools, and sections where participants will squeeze through tight slots, stem above water, and navigate obstacles in a very hands-on environment. While the route remains approachable, it still provides enough challenge to leave participants feeling accomplished and fully immersed in the canyon experience.
Water is a defining feature of this route. Expect plenty of cold pools, wading, swimming, and opportunities to jump into deep water throughout the canyon. The route also includes one short rappel, making it a great introduction to basic rappelling without overwhelming first-time canyoneers.
The canyon requires moderate fitness and comfort moving through uneven terrain. Guests should expect wet conditions for much of the route along with sections requiring stemming, scrambling, and climbing around obstacles. The experience feels more like a natural obstacle course than a standard hike.
Located just over an hour from Moab and approximately 45 minutes from Hanksville, Splish Splash Canyon is a perfect hot-weather adventure if Moab temperatures become unbearable or if you are traveling between Capitol Reef and Moab and want an unforgettable canyon experience along the way.
Because of its relatively short length and highly engaging nature, Splish Splash works especially well as a 1/2-day adventure, offering a concentrated and memorable canyon experience without the commitment of a massive technical objective.
