Sunseed Canyon - Moab's Biggest Rappel

Sunseed Canyon offers a remote and thrilling adventure perfect for advanced hikers and beginner canyoneers seeking a big day out. This lesser-known gem combines a rugged desert hike, breathtaking canyon scenery, and one of the largest rappels you will find in Moab.

Starting from Kane Creek, we’ll hike steep terrain up the through the 'Fins' of 'Behind the Rock', which provides a landscape view of the Colorado River and the desert terrain to the west. After navigating the fins, we’ll descend into Sunseed Canyon.

Before the technical section, we will do two small introductory rappels to get familiar with rappelling. The technical section includes two rappels, one being a 50 foot rappel to the edge of a massive canyon wall that presents the final 200-foot rappel to the bottom of the canyon. Tricky downclimbs, up-climbs, and some basic scrambling skills are needed to safely navigate this wild canyon.

The adventure concludes with a scenic hike along the canyon bottom and a return route that skirts the rim of Kane Creek’s deep gorge.

Expect a challenging hike with an extremely rewarding section of rappelling.

Total trip duration is typically between 4–6 hours, depending on group size, pace, and conditions.
