Sunseed Canyon - Moab's Biggest Rappel

Sunseed Canyon offers a remote and thrilling adventure perfect for advanced hikers and beginner canyoneers seeking a big day out. This lesser-known gem combines a rugged desert hike, breathtaking canyon scenery, and a very large rappel.
Starting from Kane Creek, we’ll hike steep terrain up the through the 'Fins' of 'Behind the Rock', which provides a landscape view of the Colorado River and the desert terrain to the west. After navigating the fins, we’ll descend into Sunseed Canyon.
The technical section includes two major rappels, one being a 40 foot rappel to the edge of a massive canyon wall that presents the final 197 foot rappel to the bottom of the canyon. Tricky downclimbs, optional small rappels, and some basic scrambling skills are needed to safely navigate this wild canyon.
The adventure concludes with a scenic hike along the canyon bottom and a return route that skirts the rim of Kane Creek’s deep gorge.
Expect a challenging but rewarding full-day outing that captures the spirit of true desert exploration.
Total trip duration is typically between 3–6 hours, depending on group size, pace, and conditions.
